The main focus of LTOT is to improve the quality of life of the patients and thereby to increase their survival (Barnett, M 2007, Marti, S et al, 2006, Croxton, TL 2006). Being a Crew Member of McDonalds, I know that manager and supervisor always communicate with all employees to know about their needs. In restaurant we work together as a team and manager always gives hands to any employee. In my opinion, if this process was weekly basis, performance of employees would be better than the current process. Conclusion Being a Crew Member of McDonalds restaurant in Archway, London, I found some positive activities such as employee relation, recruitment process, training system, motivation system and team work, at restaurant, which may keep the McDonalds at top position. The Heroic Epic of Beowulf In the course of time, many heroes have made their name and many stories have been written to proclaim their greatness. However, none as captivating as Beowulf. This Anglo-Saxon epic demonstrates it's power with beautiful language, usage of kennings, metaphors, similes, and alliteration. Also, it gives wondrous supernatural beings as in God, and even of powerful creatures as Grendel. On the other hand, it has human struggles and afflictions. The very first element that is discovered by reading this epic is the lofty language that is used. Although, having read only and excerpt, the writing is as glorious as the story itself. Alliteration usage and can easily recognized in line 33, "He found them sprawled in sleep, suspecting nothing..." which demonstrates the "s" sound. Another example of alliteration at work using the "p" sound is line 160, "From my prince, no permission from my people for your landing here." Metaphors provide a distinct characteristic as in line 30 describing terror as "darkness had dropped." Line 128 when sailing across the sea, describing the seas "beating" on the sand. There are few similes but one that stands out most in line 133. "The ship foamed through the sea like a bird..." Using like to describe the similarity of the bird and how the ship traveled across the sea. Probably the most important element of language are the kennings which describe something simple so indirectly. Line 241 describes darkness or night by stating how the moon hangs. Also line 325 describes Grendel in two different kennings as one form of evil. Every hero has their way of fighting evil or protecting from it. In order to fight a supernatural being, one must have a superhuman power which brings us to another characteristic of epic poetry. The very first supernatural being described is the almighty God in lines 7-3 in the beginning. God is definitely been a supernatural being because of his ability and powers that he possesses. He is mostly associated with the Earth's origin and it's inhibitors. Monsters are also form of supernatural being. Communication Opinion Essay

Effective communication plays a significant role in providing proper care for patients. According to Cheesebro, O’Connor, and Rios (2010) â€Å"Communication is sometimes defined as the process of sending and receiving messages† (para. 14). For the communication to be effective both the sender, and the receiver must understand the message. The way individuals communicate is altered according to their audience or environment. For example if an instructor is communicating through small talk his or her tone and vocabulary would differ from communicating through informational talk. The same goes for when an individual communicates with children or adults. Even though the tone and style of communication may be altered to fit the audience, the process of communication has to stay the same to be effective. Effective communication allows health care professionals to gain trust in a reluctant consumer and handle cultural differences among patients. The four basic elements of the communication process include a sender, message, receiver, and feedback. In effective communication the sender constructs a message that is appropriate for the receiver(s). According to Haycock (2003) there are three elements called the ‘3Ts’ that the sender should consider when constructing an effective message. The ‘3Ts’ are tone, tools (computer, video, note, etc. ), and tactics. It is important to think the message through before sending it to be sure it is as clear and concise as possible. In effective communication the receiver should be able to understand the message completely. The receiver may have to decode the message to gain full understanding. If he or she still does not understand the message, the receiver should use feedback to ask the sender for clarification. Feedback is an important part of effective communication because the sender learns if the receiver understood the message or not. If the receiver did not understand the message feedback allows the sender the opportunity to elucidate the message. â€Å"In short, feedback is the primary means of increasing personal awareness and establishing a shared understanding. You should give and get as much feedback as possible† (Cheesebro, et. al. , 2010, para. 23). Health care communication encompasses the four basic elements of communication. However, the basic rules of health care communication are a little more complex. According to du Pre (2005) â€Å"People are actively involved in health communication. They are not passive recipients of information† (pg. 9). Providers specifically focus on the tone and presentation of the message to ensure patients’ satisfaction. The ultimate goal in health care communication is to develop and maintain a shared understanding between health care professionals and patients. Physicians may use the biomedical or biopsychosocial model when communicating with patients. With the biomedical model, physicians use short and to-the-point questions or statements. This limits the patient input, which can cause the patient to feel dissatisfied with the care or diagnosis. The advantage of using the biomedical model is that it will save time. Although the biopsychosocial model does not save time, it is more effective when communicating in the health care setting because it focuses more on patient’s feelings. This reduces the risk of malpractice lawsuits, therefore saving money in the end. Whether health care professionals use the biomedical or biopsychosocial model, they will still encounter reluctant consumers. A provider may encourage a reluctant consumer to communicate candidly by validating the patient’s concerns, uphold complete honesty, and share plenty of ideas or information. When a consumer is reluctant, he or she can have a bad attitude and less willingness to listen. To encourage the reluctant consumer to communicate candidly it is extremely important that the provider maintains patience yet remain slightly persistent. The tone and presentation delivered by the provider makes a significant difference when persuading consumers to communicate openly. A patient may be reluctant to share open communication with a provider because of cultural differences. Some individuals feel extremely strong about their cultural beliefs, which can make it difficult for physicians to discuss cultural differences with patients. Providers generally share the same main goal, which is to help improve patient’s health. When the patient’s cultural beliefs go against certain tests and treatments it can sometimes prevent providers from doing reaching this goal. When providers cannot help improve patient’s health it an be very difficult. However, providers must respect patient’s wishes. â€Å"To be effective, health communicators must be concerned enough to pay close attention to people’s behavior and knowledgeable enough to recognize cultural and personal preferences that make people different† (du Pre, 2005, pg. 8). Barriers can arise in health care because of reluctant consumers or patients with strong cultural beliefs. Effective communication through the sender, message, receiver, and feedback can aid in breaking down these barriers. Once patients and providers can break down barriers it permits more open discussions and proper health care. Communication, especially in health care should be thought out, sensitive to feeling, clear, concise, and appropriate. According to du Pre (2005) â€Å"Communication, then, is an ongoing process of sharing and creating meaning. The challenge is not merely to put thoughts into words, but to cooperate with others in developing a shared understanding of what is happening and what it means† (pg. 10).

From the form of government we still use, to the art of war, and the philosophy that intrigues us today, we owe the Romans credit for changing our lives, even today. But what caused the urge for Rome to become so grand? The Punic Wars gave Rome a taste of what it was like to have power, riches, eminence, and fueled their expansion to transcendence. Before the first Punic War erupted, tension had built up over years between Rome and Carthage. To the people of that time, it seemed natural for a more supreme nation to have total domination over all the weaker ones. Rome and Carthage were the two most powerful nations of that region and as their power rose, so did the tension. By 265 BC, Rome controlled most of the Italian Peninsula, and was looking to expand. Sicily was the first region Rome looked to conquer but Carthage had taken control a majo r port at Messina that connected eastern and western Roman trade. With that, the race for domination had begun. With Carthage’s expansion into Roman territory, the tension bursted and the first Punic War broke out. In an attempt to start war with Rome, Carthage seized a vital port and strait that connected trade between east and west Rome. With this, Rome eagerly declared war with Carthage with the goal to dominate the other at their expense. Carthage had a more supreme navy, but Rome had a stronger army. To get onto Carthaginian shores, Rome would need to get past Carthage’s fleets of ships. To complete this task, Rome invented the crow, a large wooden plank with a nail at the end to connect two ships and raid the other, turning a disadvantage into an advantage. With this ingenuity, African shores were now accessible to Roman armies. Twenty-three years after the beginning of the war, Carthage surrendered. In return for all the fighting and blood shed that the first Pu nic War caused, Rome received complete ownership of Sicily and Carthage had to pay an immense indemnity. The first punch of the fight between Rome and Carthage had landed in Rome’s favor, and not needing to worry about Carthage for the moment, they could set their eyes on territorial expansion. In the time between the first and second Punic War, Rome looked to expand in all aspects. Three years after the war, mercenaries rebelled on the islands of Sardinia and Corsica. The mercenaries asked for Rome’s assistance for when Carthage would send their armies to take back the islands. Rome declared the islands annexed from Carthage, and when Carthage protested, Rome threatened to declare war. Still recovering from war and paying off their indemnity, Carthage was in no shape to go to war and gave up the islands. Adding insult to injury, Rome then seized control of the islands and increased the indemnity. In 229 BC, Rome had the chance to prove their new prominent navy. Illyri an pirates harassed Roman ships on the open seas. Rome sent a military expedition and swiftly wiped out the pirates, doing so, they took control of Illyria itself. Rome also set their sights on the Po Valley in Gaul. They defeated many tribes and expanded to all northern Italian lands below the Alps. Expansion into Sardinia, Corsica, Illyria, Cisalpine Gaul, enlarged their territory, population and increased their volume of trade. After Carthage recovered from the first Punic War, they gained control of Spain, triggering Rome’s appetite to gain further control of Carthage increased. The battle for their corner of the world got even more heated as the tensions between the son of the leader of Carthage during the first Punic War, Hannibal, was hungry for revenge. Rome, expanding in mass, trade, and volume, saw this as threat for their well-being and a threat to commerce.
